Illinois 5 Day Notice to Pay Quit

The Illinois five (5) day notice to quit informs a tenant that they must pay rent or vacate the premises. A landlord may, at any point after rent is late, serve the written notice to the tenant and demand that payment be made in full within five (5) days after the notice was delivered. The tenant has the option of complying by either paying the total sum due or by vacating the rental unit. If the tenant does neither, the landlord may file a Complaint against the tenant in an attempt to obtain an Eviction Order. Only after an Eviction Order is granted may the landlord request to have the sheriff forcibly remove the individual from the premises.
